Divorce was the hardest thing to go through but I am so fortunate that I had Linda Vanden Heuvel as my attorney. Linda really supported me and kept me on track when emotions were running high. It was so difficult to focus on financial decisions when my whole life was crumbling and changing but Linda ...was there to help me remember that these financial decisions would impact not only my future but my children's future well being. Linda was also so helpful in navigating placement. It's all so overwhelming. All I wanted was to keep my kids safe and happy. Linda helped me sort out all the options and make a decision and agreement with my ex that would be the best for our kids. She helped me see that fighting about every little detail would never pay off and that we needed to look past the immediate stress and help our kids be happy and healthy. Linda was sometimes a little tough but only when I needed it. She also remembered how much stress the whole divorce put in me and on my kids. Linda was there for me in court. One of the most difficult decisions to make in your life ‘after all else fails’ will be to divorce. Emotions (both for you and your children), disappointments, the feeling of failure and a complete change to your life are a lot to handle. Finding the right attorney to represent you is biggest chall...enge you’ll experience. I feel must people don’t take the time to find that person and this is someone you’re going to partner up with for months! For me, I had visited three attorneys. One of the three had the skill set necessary but I didn’t feel overly confident we would work well together. A co-worker stopped by my office and asked “did you hire an attorney”? Reluctantly (as everyone’s always got the one for you) I said “no”. He said “I have one that you need to interview”. I said “is it the attorney you used”? He said “no, his ex-wife hired her and she made my attorney look like a fool”. I laughed so hard, I set up the interview. Talk about a referral! He was right, I met Linda in her office and I felt comfortable that she should be the legal counsel representing me. Originally I was nervous when I heard the news that my soon to-be ex-wife hired some hot-shot attorney.
