My wife and I are very close friends with a married... couple that were about to unjustly be separated for a possible 4 1/2 years as the husband was facing this amount of incarceration time (a level 6 felony and class A misdemeanor). The night of the incident, several teenagers who were on drugs and plotting to kill the husband and wife with rat poison for insurance money. When the husband intervened and threatened to call the police, the teenagers devised a plan of their own. They managed to devise a convincing story to accuse the husband of battering his wife. They matched up their stories, called the police, an arrest was made and charges filed. As such, the husband was forbidden to contact his wife until the trial was over (which could have 6 months or more). The husband was able to avoid a highly publicized and expensive trial and was able to go back home to his wife, who was very distraught over the situation.
