My second DUI and I couldn't have hired a better attorney than Patrick Maher

When I got my DUI it was devastating. Not knowing what to expect was the worst of it. Unless I wanted to blindly go into this legal matter I’d need to find a good lawyer, preferably one who specializes in DUIs. I had already met with 4 attorneys and didn’t feel that any of them could help me…I jus...t wasn’t satisfied with their responses to my questions. Thankfully I had a family friend, a native of Catonsville MD, who recommended Pat Maher to me. He was more expensive than the others (they were asking 1,400-1,800 for their services) but after meeting with Pat it was obvious that he knew what I was up against and would advise me on what to do and what to expect. And he did. He knew exactly what the judge would be looking for and advised me on what I should do to avoid any problems or setbacks, like having my license suspended or jail time, so I did everything he asked of me. We appeared in front of the MVA judge three times and the criminal judge once, and each time I was less and less anxious. Being represented by Mr. Maher and having him beside me in a courtroom setting was fantastic. He even got the MVA judge to delay the trial until the officer who was in charge of the breathalyzer on the night of my arrest could appear in court with us because of a problem he found on the paperwork. Because of his efforts not only was my license never suspended or revoked but I ended up with ZERO POINTS on my driving record! Hiring Pat Maher was the smartest thing I could have done. If you’re dealing with a DUI and are looking for a lawyer to represent you call and meet with Pat before making a final decision.

Lawfully parked, but having car key access could constitute DUI

Patrick was referred to me by another attorney; that attorney was a trusted friend of mine, but did not practice DUI law. That in-its-self was an endorsement and a compliment. Upon contacting Patrick, I recognized that he was a good listener and clearly demonstrated subject matter expertise. As yo...u likely know, there are two major parts for "keeping or loosing" your license - and being fined ... and/ or going to jail. Patrick's MVA administrative skills preserved my driving privilege unencumbered (no car installed breathalyzer); and at trial, he was a cogent, respectful, and a successful advocate. And I must add, he did a good job managing his client; that is, although I objected to certain police officer testimony, Patrick calmly dissuaded me from commenting/ testifying. Apparently, the judge was persuaded, in part, by Patrick's case law references/ defense and, generally, his presentation. Whereby, the judge decided that "my particular situation" (DUI charge) did not constitute driving under the influence. Postscript - As you likely know, the probable cause regarding all DUI arrest/charges can vary significantly. In my case, when I was confronted, I was not operating/ driving my vehicle, but I was in the driver's seat; and I was on private property, asleep. However, having access to the car's keys (they were in the ignition), the confronting officer's position was that intoxication and "access to the car's keys" constituted DUI. However, it was winter and a cold night, and to keep warm, Patrick explained that I had been cycling the engine/ heater. Fortunately for me, we had a discerning judge that was also "a good listener."

Awesome Attorney

I recently had the good fortune to be represented by Mr Patrick Maher, whom I found to be a phenomenal attorney! He is very thorough, knowledgeable, methodical, and compassionate. His level of knowledge, readiness, and preparation to represent his clients is a trait to which all attorneys should as...pire. He does not give you false hope with unrealistic expectations. Mr. Maher clearly explains possible outcomes based on your specific case. I found him to be a very straightforward and honest attorney that gives his ALL. For my personal case, the DUI court hearing charges were dismissed and the MVA hearing resulted in "no action." Not only am I thankful to Mr. Maher, I am thankful for this site (Avvo). This was my first time ever being in a situation that required an attorney, and I was clueless. I began searching the internet and was led to Avvo which led me to Patrick Maher. I was drawn to him because of the favorable reviews for him, not only from his clients, but also from his peers. I have now joined that list. I would definitely recommend him to others. This may best express my opinion of him-- if Webster's Dictionary defined "Awesome Attorney" there would be a picture of Patrick Maher. Thank you Mr. Maher!

Good job of a difficult situation.

Mr. Maher did a great job, winning a 'not guilty' sentence for me in a significant traffic violation. In court we were up against testimony from 3 police officers, but Mr. Maher's skill prevailed. He also did a good job representing me in re-evaluation procedures with the MVA, including a lot of ...paperwork. You won't find anyone better.
