I was suddenly let go from my job under shady circumstances, and I was so scared of my company that I wanted someone to make sure that it was actually in my best interest to sign their release and accept their severance. If I take on your case and get you more money, I want 1/3 of whatever I get you on top of what they have already offered you." I walked away with a release agreement that protects me considerably more than the original one did, and my former company ended up paying out double what they had originally offered me in severance. They tried to do several more shady things during the process, and he stood up to them every time.
