Deposit not refunded

I was a CLIENT of Michael Schonberger's last year when I consulted him about how to handle my house after my husband died. I signed an agreement for him to provide services if I needed them and I gave him a $1000 deposit. After 8 months I never received an email from him. Just one phone call.... Never received a statement or a recapitulation of services. No services had been rendered and I did not think I was going to have a problem with the house. So I emailed Michael Schonberger and asked for my deposit back. He refused and said that my deposit had been used towards services rendered. I asked what services and also asked why I had never received a statement. The agreement I signed did not have an expiration date for the deposit nor did it state anywhere that the deposit was non-refundable. But he still refused to give me my money back.

The brightspot in a difficult transaction - highly recommended

Honest, knowledgeable, experienced, forthcoming, and very helpful. Keeps his client’s interests first and foremost. Will definitely work with him again and highly recommend his services. As perspective home buyers, my wife and I hired Mike Schonberger as a real estate attorney to conduct the rev...iew of a real estate offer contract that we had submitted with a realtor and had been accepted by the sellers. To our great benefit, Mike immediately disapproved the contract and requested the inclusion of additional language to protect our interests. The sellers of this property were very difficult to work with and attorney review lasted for over two weeks. During that period, Mike kept in contact with the seller’s attorney and kept us well informed of what was being requested of us and what we should and should not be willing to accept. Toward the end of the negotiations, the seller verbally requested that if we were to concede a couple of items, that the deal would be complete. After talking with Mike, we decided that were willing to concede these items; however, upon the seller’s submittal of the requested contract language, Mike pointed out and explained to us that there were a number of terms listed that we had not discussed and that we should not be willing to concede. His explanation was very clear and ultimately led us to rejecting the contract and terminating the negotiations. Throughout this process, Mike was the only party involved who kept our interests his highest priority. He was always willing to explain things to us in a way that made sense, and if not for him, we may have gotten into a contract that we would have regretted. My advice: do not trust a realtor to keep your interests in mind, but rather use an attorney as honest and knowledgeable as Mike to work through any real estate transaction.

I will definitely hire Michael again.

We hired Michael to buy our condo, he was recommended by a good friend of mine. Our deal was not the easiest one, my fiancee and I were not married yet and she was still living abroad. Michael handled everything with utmost regard to our concerns and financial well-being. His short, efficient, to-...the-point attitude suited us perfectly. I will definitely hire him again.
