SOME SMALL IS BETTER... .

Levitt & Slafkes, small but amazingly competent, were engaged after experiencing the worst possible representation by a firm advertising time payment but which tried to pile on more charges when filing time was critical; at first twice denying their responsibility as written in two retainer agreement...s. A costly $750 in time payment fees for which they provided little and then required a handwritten 37 page questionnaire (typewritten was not allowed even though I had drafted most of the requisite schedules), before proceeding. Levitt & Slafkes is a small firm, with well-organized professional offices and a friendly atmosphere; well worth a reasonable fee that, in retrospect, I realized you get what you pay for. And at times, you get more than you pay for. Time was critical since the firm I discharged missed repeated deadlines allowed by a kind and patient judge who was stretched to her limits unless the final deadline was met. From the outset the entire process was simple and easy. Shelly Slafkes, Partner, met with me for a little more than an hour. She reviewed forms I had prepared in advance, asked questions, and afterwards, transcribed all required data needed for a multitude of complex schedules, with only a few phone conferences to get added information. All data was entered by her (no handwritten or typed questionnaire required) into a computer program which is designed to submit a complete filing. In due course the case was recently discharged. But this is not the end. There was potentially a new problem regarding an apartment lease. When aware of this, both partners joined in a phone call to recommend, prior to the case being closed, adding this obligation to the case for added protection from the court. Good lawyering is always hoped for when engaging an attorney. But taking time, after discharge, to recommend and then prepare needed documents without requesting added fees is an act of servicing a client unexpectedly volunteered and greatly appreciated. One would be ill advised to consider “bargain rate” or legal “factories” (found on the internet) instead of engaging this highly effective and proficient firm.
