I appeared at my hearing by Zoom, for my temporary restraining order. The TRO was put into place, based on serious, egregious, false allegations against me, regarding a dear, older friend of mine.
I asked the judge for a “second” continuance. I was not represented by an attorney. The first request for a continuance was granted, six weeks ago. However, my second request was denied. As a result, the restraining order was granted, and put in place for THREE YEARS! I explained to the judge, my reason for the second request for a continuance, was I needed an attorney, and was having a very hard time finding one for various reasons, but not lack of diligence on my part. I gave examples of why attorneys were unavailable, and even shared the names of attorneys I had contacted. The judge’s reason for denying a continuance, was that I had plenty of time to find an attorney. Also, he stated, elder abuse cases are generally expedited, and he was not willing to agree to a second continuance.
Because I appeared to request a continuance, I did not present any evidence, witnesses, etc. Therefor,e, my question is, is an appeal an option for me? And if so, what type of lawyer is best suited?
