Why I am a Personal Injury Lawyer
Welcome to my first law firm blog posting. I thought the subject of why I am a personal injury lawyer would be a great first topic. There are basically two reasons: to help people and to make a nice living.
Let’s discuss the 2nd reason first – making a nice living. In personal injury law, an attorney can make a great deal of money. Personal injury attorneys that do their jobs well are among the highest paid professionals in America. I don’t see anything wrong with choosing a profession where you can do a great job and be well-paid. It seems in America today we treat making good money as something evil or bad. Granted, there are plenty of personal injury lawyers who are a disgrace to what I believe is a very noble calling. Most of us know that people who tell you how smart they are, or how tough they are or how great they are, usually aren’t any of the above. This couldn’t be more true for personal injury lawyers.
But, for those injury firms, like our firm, that get clients based on our reputations with other lawyers and in the community at-large, we can make a really nice living doing something that is incredibly important, which brings me to the first reason I am a personal injury attorney – helping people.
The satisfaction that everyone at The Law Offices of Tim O’Hare feels when we help a client restore balance to their lives after suffering a catastrophic injury is priceless. We help people when they need it most. Frequently, we help the poor avoid being taken advantage of by unscrupulous insurance companies. I’ll give you an example.
We represented a client who was trying to deal with an insurance company on his own. A very nice man, not out to get rich or milk the system. He had been in a serious car wreck where he was care-flighted to a hospital after suffering catastrophic injuries. The insurance company offered him $15,000 to settle his case, despite the fact that his medical expenses were over $100,000! Fortunately, he called us the day he was going to sign the settlement papers. Had he signed the agreement, he would have owed tens of thousands of dollars in medical expenses, with no hope of ever getting out of debt – all because he was in a car accident that was no fault of his own. We came in and leveled the playing field. The case settled for far more than $15,000 and the client did not walk out of our office in debt. We received fair compensation for him and held the insurance company accountable.
We have story after story like the one I just told you. The moral of that story is not that all insurance company people are crooks – there are many good people who work for insurance companies. But, you never know if you are going to be treated fairly until it is usually too late to do anything about it. Anytime you are seriously injured from a car wreck, job accident, medical mistake, fall, defective product or any other situation that was not your fault, you should always consult a personal injury attorney. With our firm, we will give you a Free Case Evaluation, with no pressure. If nothing else, you will know your rights and be able to make an educated decision on whether to hire a lawyer.?Helping people is the best part of being a personal injury lawyer. I have been blessed in my career. I am a lucky man to be able to do something I love, make good money doing it, and most importantly, helping people in need in the process.
