When to remind the court that it will be an abuse of discretion if the court makes a bad ruling

The court must follow and observe established legal principals and make its decision based on Substantial evidence. What is substantial evidence is different for each case. If the court does not follow the established principal of law , its decision can be reversed on appeal.
