What You Can Expect from Social Security Disability in 2019

Every December I record a video discussing what I expect to see from Social Security disability in the coming year, so here are my predictions for 2019.

Not surprisingly, I don’t anticipate any big changes in SSA’s #disability decision making process. Delays will continue to reach 2 to 3 years, and #SSA will again ask its remaining employees to do more with less.

Social Security now employs fewer employees than it did 10 years ago, even though the number of claimants it serves (and this includes retirement claimants, disability claimants and others) has more than doubled.

As I discuss in this video, SSA continues to allocate money in its budget to computer systems as SSA wants to force you to interact with the agency online instead of one-on-one with a live person.

As has been the case for years, you have to be your own advocate when interacting with Social Security since you cannot assume fast or accurate service. Social Security’s website used to boast of “world class service” but that claim has been quietly retired.

You can still win your #disabilityclaim but more emphasis will be put on objective evidence and long time treating records. And #disabilityjudges will continue to favor older, less educated claimants. #socialsecuritydisability #ssdi
