What to do after a motor vehicle accident

Information to gather after a motor vehicle accident

If you are involved in a motor vehicle accident, as a driver, as a passenger, in a car, or other vehicle, there are several items of information that you should gather at the scene. These include witness names, addresses, and phone numbers. Also information from the individual that caused the accident and hit you, including: name, address, phone number, license plate number, and any insurance company information. If you can, you should also take pictures of the damage to vehicles involved in the accident.

If the police arrived at the scene of the accident, make sure that you give them a complete statement of what happened. It is also good to get a copy of the police report number.

You do not need to get statements from individuals at the scene of the accident. Your attorney will be able to contact the individuals who witnessed or were involved in the accident.

You should seek medical care for your injuries following the accident.

Before giving any statements to any insurance company it is important to check with your attorney first.
