LEGAL GUIDE
Written by attorney John Griffin Watts | Feb 7, 2017

What's the difference between my note, mortgage, and deed in Alabama?

These three terms are related to your home.

The note is the debt.

The mortgage is the security tying the debt to your home.

We like to say that the mortgage "ties the debt to the dirt."

The deed is the proof of ownership.

Hope this is helpful to you.
