What is medicare?

Medicare is a federal health insurance program, generally for people 65 and up. Medicare is important to long term care planning because Medicare will pay a portion of your skilled nursing facility. However, many of my clients make the mistake in thinking that Medicare will pay for their long term care. Medicare will only pay for a portion of your long term care needs, in which case, we're on our own.
