What is Discovery? Why Do I Need it?
Discovery is a term lawyers toss around. In a general sense it refers to various tools attorneys can use to find out information about your spouse, her business or her behavior.
Is it expensive?Sometimes. Have a frank discussion with your counsel about the anticipated cost and the likelihood it will benefit your case.
What are the costs?Your attorney will bill for the time it takes to research and prepare the documents such as subpoenas or notices to produce. The recipient, such as a bank may have their own costs, but typically an estimate is sent in advance. Depositions can be very costly as you are billed for the preparation, the court reporter, the transcript and the actual time spent in the room.
Is there a cheaper way?Any current financial information you can legitimately gather on your own will save you money. Come prepared!
