What is a Plea Bargain?

You've probably heard the term "plea bargain" and wondered what it really means. Simply put, when someone is charged with a crime they have two choices: go to trial and place their fate in the hands of a jury, or accept a settlement of the case which results in certainty about the potential sentence which can be imposed.
