What Do Witnesses Do at the Will Execution?

Posted by attorney Alan Brinkmeier

Witnesses are to be present to watch that the will is executed by the testator. The correct number of witnesses, as prescribed under state law, sign the will as witnesses. The witnesses take the oath the notary administers to the witnesses to establish their residence. The witnesses announce to the notarty public and testator their lack of interest in the benefits of the will. It is a simple job, but it is important that all the ceremonial aspects of witnessign the will are performed.
