Using a sports trademark

Many people have ideas about putting a sports trademark (such as an NFL mascot, NCAA team name, and the like) on a product for sale. Be aware that sports teams derive a substantial amount of income from their trademarks and they go to great lengths to protect them.

If you want to license names and mascots for a particular team, you should do a search on the parent organization for the team (e.g., NFL, NHL, MLB, NASCAR, NCAA, etc.). From that search, you should be able to get information about the licensing company for that organization. You can also search for licensing agents associated with the parent organization (e.g. "licensing agent" +NFL).
