Current Law
In NY State, landlords are responsible for keeping their buildings in a safe and habitable condition. This applies to both the inside and outside of the buildings. Outside of the building, landlords are responsible for keeping the sidewalks in front of their premises safe and not have cracks, potholes or raised sidewalk flags. They are also responsible for snow and ice removal. Inside the building, landlords are responsible for keeping the common areas free of debris, liquids and tripping hazards. -
What to Do if you Trip, Slip and Fall

2. Take pictures of the condition.
3. Seek the appropriate medical attention.
