Chapter 7 bankruptcy allows debtors to obtain a fresh financial start. Most unsecured debts can be eliminated (discharged) through bankruptcy. Such debts include: credit cards; medical bills; most personal loans; most judgments and deficiencies on repossessed vehicles.
Getting a "fresh start" (cont.):
In addition to getting rid of your debt, Chapter 7 allows you to typically keep all of your property. As long as your car and mortgage payments are current, and there is no significant equity in your property, you may "reaffirm" those debts and keep them. Hopefully by getting to keep your home, your car and your personal belongings, you will have the tools necessary to get a fresh financial start and make your life better.
