Time Limit to File a Lawsuit Against a Cruise Line

Q: Are there time limits to file my Florida cruise ship accident lawsuit?

A: Yes, and this is where most personal injury lawyers who don't also specialize in maritime law can get tripped up. There is a one-year statute of limitations to file your claim against the cruise line. This is found in the cruise passenger ticket. In addition to the timeline, there is also a foreign selection clause which requires that you bring your claim in a particular court, most often in Florida. Additionally, in your cruise passenger ticket, there will be a requirement to give the cruise line written notice within six months of your injury.
