The Link Between Skechers Shape-ups and Plantar Fasciitis

One of the most common injuries reported by Skechers Shape-Ups consumers are ankle injuries, including broken ankles, fractured bones, and strained connective tissue. Because the Skechers Shape-Ups sole design is so rounded, the foot is forced to roll from heel to toe, possibly overextending the connective tissue around the foot and causing injuries such as plantar fasciitis. Shape-Ups consumers who develop plantar fasciitis are advised to see a doctor to determine if the injury is caused by the toning shoes’ defective design. Those whose injuries are caused by the Shape-Ups may be entitled to receive financial reparations from the toning shoe manufacturer.

Plantar Fasciitis

The plantar fasciitis is a large ligament that runs along the bottom of the foot, extending from the bottom of the heel bone to base of the toes. When this thick band of connective tissue becomes overused, it can become inflamed. Long-term use of toning shoes that provide inadequate foot support, such as the Skechers Shape-Ups, can damage the plantar fascia causing excruciating pain in the feet even when the foot is resting. Symptoms of plantar fasciitis include:

  • Pain in one or both feet
  • Sense of stabbing pain in the heel
  • Pain that peaks in the morning or after long periods of rest
  • Pain that intensifies over time

Skechers Shape-Ups Foot Support

Shoes designed for exercise should provide support and stability, two basic requirements that the Shape-Ups fails to fulfill. The Skechers brand toning shoes are intentionally unstable and the rocker bottom heel design does not provide firm support for the feet. The end result is a shoe that causes excessive strain on the muscles and connective tissues in the foot and places excessive stress on weight bearing bones. Understandably, plantar fasciitis is only one of many different types of foot injuries that have been linked to the Skechers Shape-Ups.

Liability for Shape-Ups Related Damages

For many injured consumers, a product liability lawsuit is one way to seek justice and financial compensation for the losses and expenses accrued as a result of Skechers Shape-Ups related injuries. Many of the pending lawsuits allege that the shoes are defectively designed and therefore inherently dangerous. But because Skechers is continuing to reject responsibility for the toning shoe injuries, it is critical for injured consumers to retain a professional product liability lawyer.
