The Elements of Service Connection

In order for any VA disability claim for service connection to be successful, three main elements must be present. Service connection means that a veteran's disability was incurred during or aggravated by his or her military service. To establish service connection on a direct basis, veterans must show evidence of the following: (1) a current, diagnosed disability; (2) an in-service event, injury, or illness; and (3) a medical nexus between the current disability and the in-service event, injury, or illness. This video gives an overview of service connection and breaks down each element necessary for veterans to be successful in their claims.
