Sepsis and Medical Malpractice (VIDEO)
Sepsis is a life threatening condition that begins with an infection but is characterized by an immune response that is too severe and thus becomes part of what the patient struggles with. Signs and symptoms of sepsis can be subtle and missed by a negligent medical provider. Such signs and symptoms include high temperature or an abnormally low body temperature. An abnormally rapid heart rate or breathing rate, difficulty making urine, or mental confusion or impairment. Such signs and symptoms in the amalgam can telegraph impending sepsis. "Septic shock" is a condition where sepsis has progressed to the extent that the patient has suffered a catastrophic drop in blood pressure and unless reviving measures like intravenous fluids are promptly instituted, the results can be tragic.
