Nursing Home Death Results in Lawsuit
A man’s death from sepsis while in nursing home care has motivated his family to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the nursing home facility where he was a resident. According to the lawsuit, the man died of cardiopulmonary arrest due to sepsis. The lawsuit was filed by his family over the death, which occurred in 2010. The family is suing for mental anguish, loss of relationship and exemplary damages, according to a story about the case in the Southeast Texas Record.
Death in Nursing Homes
One of the most significant dangers to nursing home residents is infection. Because many of these residents already have weakened immune systems, infections can run through their bodies quickly and, if they’re not attended to quickly enough and appropriately, these infections can easily cause death.
The danger is sometimes hard to stop. Poor hygiene, however, is one of the most significant signs that someone in a nursing home may be in danger of contracting a dangerous infection. If your loved one is in a nursing home, make sure you visit often and make sure that they are receiving proper care, including proper hygiene.
If you believe that your loved one is suffering from an infection and the medical staff at the nursing home is not taking it seriously, contact a physician, by all means. Infections aren’t oftentimes thought of as serious risks to people’s health these days, mainly because of the medical technology that’s available to fight them off, but they are as deadly as they ever were and, in people who cannot fight them off as well as someone who is young and healthy, they can turn into life threatening illnesses very quickly.
One of the signs of neglect, and most pernicious causes of infections, that you should watch out for are bed sores. Bed sores can quickly become infected. They can even tunnel deep into the body, resulting in life-threatening injuries to organs, muscle tissues and other parts of the body.
