Make the request to the bureauAsk the bureau you chose to place a fraud alert on your file. It's free. (Ask them to confirm that they will contact the other two bureaus). Consider ordering your credit report at this time.
Mark your calendarThe fraud alert is valid for ninety (90) days and then expires. Don't worry, you can renew it.
