How to Obtain an Expedited Travel Document
A guide to increasing your chances of obtaining a travel document on an expedited basis.
1. Discuss with a LawyerAn experienced immigration lawyer can advise you whether or not you qualify for obtaining a travel document on an expedited basis.
2. Gather All Supporting DocumentationGather all documentation to support your need to travel abroad while your adjustment of status application is pending (e.g., medical reasons, family emergency, business reasons, etc.) and have an attorney review these materials and to advise you as to how to present these documents to increase your success in obtaining an approval for your travel document.
3. Paying the FeeMany people mistakenly believe that there is no filing fee when an adjustment of status application is pending with USCIS. While this is true, it is not true for those individuals who wish to obtain a travel document on an expedited basis as many field offices that provide this service, charge a fee.
4. Making an Appointment at a Local USCIS OfficeYou will need to make an appointment at a local field office and take with you Form I-131, proof of a pending adjustment of status application, proof of fee payment, and all documents supporting the need to travel.
