How to Get A Copy Of a Car Accident Report in the Sacramento Area
If you've been involved in a car accident, to prepare a car insurance claim you need a copy of the car accident police report filled out by the responding officer. The accident report can be critical to obtaining the insurance coverage you need and should be part of every car accident claim.
Get a copy of an accident report from the Sacramento Police DepartmentYou can order a Traffic Collision Report five to ten business days after if you've been injured in a car accident in the Sacramento area, and the Sacramento Police Department came to the scene.
Traffic Collision Reports can be released to authorized persons. This may include injury victims, witnesses, vehicle owners, and legal guardians of a minor victim involved in the accident (see California Vehicle Code section 20012).
The cost of an online report is $5 and can be ordered at sacramentoca.policereports.us
To request a copy of an accident report by mail, please provide:
-The type of report you are requesting: Traffic Collision
-Your accident report number, if known.
-The date and location of occurrence.
-The parties involved in the collision and their addresses, if known.
-The vehicle license number, when applicable.
-Authorizing documentation, for example, power of attorney, death certificate, or birth certificate, if the request is from an interested party other than a listed victim.

Get a copy of an accident report from the California Highway PatrolThe California Highway Patrol (CHP) is responsible for responding to accidents that occur on the many highways within California. You can go into any CHP office and have them obtain a copy of the Traffic Collision Report, or arrange for the report to be mailed to your home or business address.
If you are unable to go into your local CHP office, you may order your report by mail by completing a Form CHP 190 (Application for Release of Information) available here: https://www.chp.ca.gov/EnforcementAndPlanningDivisionSite/Documents/CHP190.pdf
Send the completed CHP 190 Form or personal letter to the CHP office that reported the collision, along with verification that you are a proper Party of Interest.
Make a copy of your driver license or picture identification card and attach it to your request for a collision report.
Once the CHP has your request and verified you are a proper party of interest, a copy of the report will be mailed to your address upon receipt of payment.
The CHP does not have the option for reports to be ordered online yet.
