If the allegations involve actual physical contact or threats on one's life, then the case will be treated as especially sensitive.
Evaluate what the Petitioner Wants
Does the Petitioner just want the Defendant to stay away? Or are there other issues, such as the taking of Defendant's gun, a claim for custody, or request for child support? A PFA can open a whole host of issues involving divorce (equitable distribution), support, child custody, and other matters. The order entered in the PFA case can have consequences in various areas of the Defendant's life so this may be a crucial time for the Defendant to seek experienced counsel. Likewise, on the prosecution side, you want to make sure that you have your case prepared to ensure that you get the order you need to protect against further abuse. You will want counsel with experience in the area you live, such as Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Westmoreland, or Washington County.
