How to change my child's name or birth date (after an International Adoption)
Name Change for my foreign-born childIf you are in the process of "recognizing" the foreign adoption, or petitioning to "readopt," you can make the name change part of the same process in Court. It's best to do the name change at this time so that your Final Judgment will reflect all the modifications to the foreign adoption in one proceeding.
Changing the birth date of my foreign-born childSome countries are woefully inaccurate in assessing a child's age, and so, families may want to modify the birth date to correspond to the child's natural age (determined by medical experts). This can be done with the proper medical evidence, through dental records, bone scans, and other testing by licensed medical professionals. Ultimately, the Court will weigh the testimony and evidence presented.
