How much are the fines after a DUI arrest in Maryland?

Along with going to jail, losing their job, and not being able to drive, people that are arrested for a DUI in Maryland are very concerned about the financial consequences of their actions.

After being arrested, you are handed a list of offenses you are alleged to have committed. Taking a quick glance at the paperwork gives many people anxiety as they start to add up the potential fines associated with all of their charges.

Ultimately, every potential client wants to know how much their poor decision to drive while under the influence is going to cost them. The good news is, it’s not nearly as bad as you think.

Maryland DUI Fines The different levels of Maryland DUI Penalties are as follows:

DWI The maximum penalty for driving while impaired (DWI) in Maryland is 60 days incarceration and/or a $500.00 fine.

DUI The maximum penalty for driving under the influence (DUI) in Maryland is 1 year incarceration and/or a $1,000.00 fine.

DUI Per Se The maximum penalty for driving under the influence per se (DUI per se) in Maryland is 1 year incarceration and/or a $1,000.00 fine.

How much will I actually pay in fines for my DUI arrest? The above listed fines are the maximum penalties. In our experience, clients facing their first DUI arrest pay fines totaling a couple hundred dollars. In fact, we have even had clients that paid no fines, just the court costs.

The average fine we see associated with a guilty finding to a DUI is somewhere between $100.00 – $500.00. This does not include the court costs which are usually less than $100.00.

Remember, every case is different, and every judge is different. Some judges believe in hefty fines, others do not.

So, before you start raiding your retirement account, or taking on a second job, consult with an experience attorney to help you understand the potential costs you are facing after your drunk driving arrest in Maryland.
