If you are over 21 yo, your Texas DL will be suspended for 6 months. If you are under 21, your Texas DL will be suspended for 1 year. Under both, you will have to take the Texas Drug Offender's Education Program (DOEP) and pay surcharges before your DL will be reinstated. DON'T let a cheap lawyer plead you to time served before you understand the ramifications!
Federal Financial Aid
If you are convicted of a drug offense, the Federal government can and will deny you the ability to receive federal financial aid for school. This may not seem like a big deal now, but wait until you start checking how much it costs to get an Associate's degree or a Bachelor's degree - you will be begging for that financial aid - and it will be too late!
On your record FOREVER
If you are convicted, this will be on your record forever. There is no chance to get an expungement later - no matter how much time passes. When you are 62 yo and trying to get an apartment, your drug case from when you were 22 will still be there!
