Grandparent Guardianship of Minor Child

Grandparents are raising their grandchildren due to a variety of circumstances but a high percentage raise their grandchildren due to drug addiction. Guardianship is often necessary for the Grandparents to make decisions for these children and to receive benefits on behalf of the kids.

Effective November 1, 2018 Oklahoma provides that a Guardian must provide to the Court three (3) forms of identification for herself/himself and everyone living in their home that is 18 years of age or older the following: 1. a national fingerprint-based criminal background check (like an FBI check); and, 2. a state of Oklahoma background check including the Sex Offenders Registration Act database (like the OSBI check); and, 3. a search of the child abuse and neglect information system maintained for review by authorized entities by the Department of Human Services,
