When you drive in New Mexico, don't forget your cell phone! If you're in a car accident it will be your best friend. In addition to using the phone to contact your family and friends, the police and emergency medical personnel, you should also use your cell phone to immediately take photographs of the scene. Take photographs of the damage to all vehicles involved in the accident. Take photographs of the area surrounding the accident including intersections, roadways and traffic. Take photographs of the driver and passengers of the vehicles involved in the accident,.
It costs nothing to use your cell phone to take photographs, so snap, snap snap!!
So often New Mexico insurance companies deny claims by stating that there was little to no damage to the responsible driver's vehicle. This happens when the responsible person gets the vehicle fixed immediately after the accident before reporting to his/her insurance company. Sure this is fraud, but the insurance company will usually stand behind their driver.
Often the rnegligent ldriver will claim that he is the passenger and vice versa. You will see this when the driver had no driver's license because it was suspended or revoked. Photographs will help you identify who was driving.
Photographs of the scene may also help you identify witnesses and/or their vehicles. Make sure to take photographs of the plates of all vehicles of witnesses or good samaratins who have stopped by to help.
