Divorce in Virginia
You can get a divorce in Virginia.
It does not matter where you were married. But, you need to be a legal resident of Virginia and that requires living in Virginia for six months. Military people are included. Only one person needs to live in Virginia for that time. The time to file a divorce requires separation for at least 12 months. If there are no children and an agreement I can file a divorce after six months. We call that a friendly divorce and no one needs to come to court and no fighting over property. Coming to an agreement cost lest court and attorney time and in my experience is a more lasting agreement.
An uncontested divorce is easy even if you are deployed. If all people agree a divorce can be completed by paper work and an attorney presenting proper documents. It is a friendly divorce and legal and less expensive.
