Chesire Woman Recieves $431,500 Settlement for Injuries from Car Crash
Chesire resident awarded significant settlement after sustaining serious injuries in 1994 collision.
The AccidentAt approximately 8 am on the morning of March 9, 1994, the plaintiff was traveling West on Route 68 in Wallingford, Connecticut when her vehicle collided with Michael Calderoni's, which had been traveling East that same morning. The accident itself occured when Calderoni, a 27 year old Southington resident, veered his vehicle over the center line of the road and hit the plaintiff's car head on.
The InjuriesThe impact of the crash was determined to be very severe, as it caused the plaintiff's son to hit the windshield and resulted in the plaintiff herself sustaining significant facial injuries and a great deal of emotional distress in the years to follow. The plaintiff's husband stated that although his wife seems to have now gotten back on her feet, she lost nearly everything due to the crash and had to close her business because of it.
Michael Calderoni, who was labeled at fault for the accident, was killed upon impact from the crash.
The OutcomeThe plaintiff received a settlement of $50,000 for her injuries and $21,500 for her son's injuries from Calderoni's insurance company following the crash. The plaintiff later filed a claim against her own insurer, seeking settlement under the policy's under-insured motorist doctrines. The claim against her insurer, the Hartford Fire Insurance Company, was scheduled for trial but was settled before jury selection.
