Can Eating Bread Affect A Breathalyzer

Eating bread can cause false positive results on a breathalyzer machine. This video was a fun demonstration of me eating a plain old piece of white bread and blowing into my Intoxilyzer CMI SD-2 breathalyzer. As you can see from the video, bread contains small amounts of alcohol. When you chew the bread the alcohol gets released into your mouth and breath. If you have an ignition interlock, eating bread prior to getting in your car can cause you serious legal troubles.

If you have been charged with a ignition interlock violation, a DUI or DWI, in Northern Virginia call Nichols & Green pllc for a free consultation (703) 383-9222
