BEEP! BEEP! PARKING TICKETS AND CHAPTER 13
The city of Chicago and other communities are aggressively handing out tickets. Parking tickets, red light, and speed camera violations.
Chicago particularly has aggressive collection practices. Booting cars, impounding cars and suspending driver’s licenses.
IT IS A BIG PROBLEM FOR DRIVERS;Chicago generates $264,000,000 in revenue; and,
Ticket revenue is about 3 to 4% of the budget;
Unpaid tickets total about $1.5 billion in Chicago.
When tickets are not paid promptly the fine doubles: a $60 ticket becomes $120.
Chicago is broke and they want their money
What To Do?Pay any ticket immediately, if possible;
If you have accumulated tickets try to work out a repayment plan with the city;
If that fails immediately file Chapter 13!
Why File Chapter 13?Chicago and other communities are *booting* and impounding cars.
If you file Chapter 13 before this happens then it won't
And, having driver's licenses suspended.
Chapter 13 can prevent a license suspension for parking ticket and red light tickets. Or, get it back.
Can You Get You Get Back An Impounded Car By Filing Chapter 13?It is not clear. Judges are split on the subject. Even if you can the process is expensive and it takes a long time.
What will Chapter 13 cost? Assuming only parking tickets and other unsecured debts about $100 per month.
Is that expensive? Look at the alternatives:The city impounds your car and you can*t get it back and/or
What if your driver*s license is suspended? You either can*t drive or you drive in violation of the law. If you drive on a suspended license there are heavy fines.
