Baby Got Stuck During Delivery Now Has A Brain Injury?

Did your baby get stuck during delivery and now you have learned that he or she has a brain injury? WHAT IS SHOULDER DYSTOCIA?

Did your baby get stuck during delivery? The name for this is shoulder dystocia. Shoulder dystocia occurs when the baby gets trapped behind the mother’s pelvis. When this occurs, doctors must notice it and move quickly to free the child.

According to research, certain factors can increase the chance of shoulder dystocia. Some of the factors are an increase and the baby's weight, mom's body mass index, duration of the second stage of labor, and whether mom has had a previous shoulder dystocia delivery.

BABY GOT STUCK DURING DELIVERY NOW HAS A BRAIN INJURY?

When shoulder dystocia is present, it presents as an emergency because for one thing, the baby’s umbilical cord can get compressed. The umbilical cord is important to the baby in that it provides the needed nutrients and oxygen. If the cord is compressed in there can be a reduced level of oxygen getting to the baby. This reduce the level of oxygen can trigger fetal hypoxia or hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy.

This is why doctors must pay attention and move to free the child as soon as possible. Value of the doctors to attend to shoulder dystocia properly can lead to serious injury, or death in some cases.
