Avoiding Suspension during COVID 19
I feel compelled to correct the absolute misinformation posted by a disturbed individual whom I had to decline to represent because of his mental instability.
You can mail in not guilty pleas for your tickets during COVID 19--NYS DMV is NOT issuing suspensions for folks who mail in not guilty pleas
While TVB courts are not open in downstate counties, you can reply by mail to your ticketDespite the indefinite closure of TVB courts downstate at this time due to Covid19, you must respond to your tickets timely. If you do so online at https://dmv.ny.gov/tickets/how-plead-or-pay-nyc-tvb-traffic-tickets
you should get an immediate hearing date.
If you do so by mail as described how and where to do so by mail THERE will be a DELAY in them getting back to you, but DMV IS NOT ISSUING SUSPENSIONS for these tickets answered by mail during the COVID19 shut down. The staff at DMV is working hard to tackle the backlog of tickets and will be responding shortly. Suspensions are only issued for UNANSWERED tickets, as always, but see below*
Keep copies--use certified mail if you can--if you fail to answer what to doAlways make copies of whatever official documents, like not guilty pleas to traffic tickets, and keep them to prove you responded as directed. That's all you need to do.
DMV has said that if you are late or failed to answer a ticket during COVID19 judges will be recalendaring tickets WITHOUT bond as soon as they open, so do not panic. Simply wait until DMV reopens, go to any tvb court and ask to see the judge about a ticket received during COVID 19 shut down.
