Arizona DUI- Do I really need to hire an attorney for my DUI case?

The question of whether somebody really needs to hire an attorney for their DUI case is one of the most common questions defense attorneys get in Arizona. The simple answer is YES! Arizona has some of the harshest penalties in the entire country for people convicted of a DUI. Even if you have never been in trouble in your entire life, you are facing mandatory jail times, fines, fees, classes, a license suspension and an ignition interlock requirement in any vehicle you drive for at least 1 year.

Having an experienced and aggressive DUI attorney can mean the difference between your freedom and a jail cell. Only by having an attorney by your side will you be able to ensure that every single thing is done in order to ensure you the best outcome possible. For example, the validity of the stop is one of the most important aspects of your DUI case. If the police officer pulled you over without a constitutional basis, the evidence in your case may be suppressed based on an illegal search and seizure and your case may be dismissed.

There are also countless questions that need to be raised regarding the actual DUI investigation in order to determine the best course of action. These questions include the validity and accuracy of the field sobriety tests, the blood or breath tests that determine your alcohol concentration and any questioning the police officer may have performed. Your attorney should examine every aspect of your case in order to find the weaknesses in the State's case against you in order to put you in the best position to win your case.

In addition, you now have to pay to go to jail in Arizona. Really! The average cost of your jail stay will be $100 per day. This means that a person convicted of a first offense extreme DUI will not only have to serve a minimum of 30 days in jail and pay thousands of dollars in fines and fees, but they will have to pay an additional $3000 in jail costs. If your attorney can fight and move your Extreme DUI to a regular DUI or better, you will save no less than $5,000 in fines, fees and jail costs.

The fact is, you are facing serious consequences if convicted of a DUI in Arizona and you should not have to fight your case alone. An experienced DUI attorney can save you thousands of dollars and a lenghty jail sentence.
