Make sure you have an asset that is valued less than the costs of funeral
If the deceased person died with say a car, a bank account or even stocks and bonds, that were titled just in their name then they will need to go through probate to clear title. As a creditor who paid for the funeral bill
When you pay the funeral bill make sure you have a signed receipt
The Court is going to require that you provide them with a copy of a receipt showing that the funeral bill has been paid in full and that your name appears on the receipt. It would be most helpful if the receipt or receipts showed the payment of the funeral and burial. It would also be helpful if the receipt included a description of services rendered.
Make sure you have a copy of the Death Certificate
The copy of the death certificate should probably be a certified copy and totally legible.
The Make sure you have a list of heirs for the Decedent
The Court will require a Party informatoin sheet that will seek the names, addresses and other personal information of the decedent, the creditor and attorney.

You will need a money order or credit/debit card to pay the filing fee. You will also need to provide Court with a Party information sheet showing the name, address, date of birth or death of the subject party and of the applicant for refusal of letters.
