Affidavits of Support

The purpose of affidavits of support is to establish that family-based immigrants will have adequate financial support. This is to insure that, if granted a green card, they will not rely on the U.S. government for financial support.

Most people believe that they are doing the right thing by helping to financially support the intending immigrant. And this is true but it is important that they understand that the obligation may last the rest of their lives.
