Absentee Bar Owners Guide

Many bar, lounge, club owner or owners are absentee owner(s), meaning they do the daily stocking, accounting and other administrative tasks. However, the owner(s) themselves rarely operate the business during business hours for many reasons. Thus, they often hire a so-called "manager" to operate the business and other employees.

However, when VICE or ABC officers raid the business for unlawful selling of alcohol, they usually cite the manager or other employees when the owner is not present. Thus, ABC has a program to register a manager and educate them regarding ABC regulations. It consist of an application and a fee. This program allows your manager to be educated in ABC regulations so that he/she may educate other employees on ABC regulations.

Shall your business receive multiple citations violating ABC regulations, they may request you to register a manager. It is a "safe than sorry" way to run your business involving ABC.
