This is a reasonable question, because of HIPAA and other laws that explain your right to privacy.
When we sue the defendant and claim personal injury, the defendant has the right to defend themselves against that claim.
The reason they are entitled to see your medical records is so that they can fairly defend their case.
It's the same as if you were dealing with a debt collector, and you ask them to provide evidence that they own the debt that they claim you owe.
