I have a credit card debt ($750) that is now with a collection agency. The debt is not old (about an year). I want to settle this debt in full. I wanted to know if it would be advisable to hire a lawyer to verify, negotiate and settle this debt with the collection agency?
It would cost you some some money, of course. But it would give you peace of mind of having a written settlement agreement. I have seen many cases where the consumer settled, or thought they did, only to find out the collector sold the unpaid portion to another collector, or where the consumer then got 1099'd for the unpaid balance.
I am not your attorney unless you and I have signed a retainer agreement. What I am saying is not legal advice. Do not act on this information without engaging my services, this is for consideration only.
