I work for Walmart distribution and I reported a incident where to other workers make comments about gay people that made me feel very unsafe and after I did so all that happened was they got talk to about a week after that I got cornered by them after work and got hurt pretty bad to where I had to have surgery on my shoulder. Walmart convinced me that I should file a report that I got hurt on the job and make it a workers comp claim because I would get nothing out of getting no a lawyer and pursuing the matter since it was after work and we were off the clock. Now I feel like it was a mistake and Walmart did that so they wouldn't have to deal with it or have it come against them
Depending on exactly where it happened, comp may have been the proper place to file. However, it sounds like you should speak with an employment attorney.

You should consider meeting with an attorney in your area who specializes in worker's compensation and PI. He can guide you.
You really would be well advised to meet face-to-face with a local work comp attorney, who can get all the relevant facts from you, and best advise you how to proceed. You can find a lawyer through this site, by clicking the "Find a Lawyer" tab at the top of this page, then searching for a workers compensation attorney in your city and state, and then calling around to get a free consultation. Best of luck.

If you were still on the employer's premises when the incident took place there is a good likelihood that your injuries would be covered by Workers' Compensation. I suggest you consult a local attorney, preferably one who is a certified Workers' Compensation specialist, to discuss your options. You will not need to pay for the consultation.
As we are apt to say all too often on here, this is a case where you should probably meet with an attorney in person so your entire case can be reviewed.
