I open a small bussiness for the first time and needed to get workers comp and liability insurance. I call and spoke to an agent and explain to her what I needed the next day I stop by the her office and met with the agent. She gave me all the prices and I pay her cash because she said only cash. She gave me a receipt for the money I pay her $2,100 and she explain to me that all the documents will be mail to my home address. Today I call the insurance company (WC) and found out the my premium is only $1805 and that they only receive a payment of $903 and that I still owe them $900. I also call the liability insurance company that is here on my insurance certificate and they couldn't find me in their system as insure with them. I try calling the agent and can't get a hold of her (godoy insurance agency). Please help I don't know what to do in this case and I don't have enough money to get insurance thru another company.
First and foremost, I would confirm that this "insurance agent" is a legitimate insurance agent. At face value, it sounds like she may have conned you. See if the agent is even registered with the Bureau of Insurance.
If the person you dealt with IS a licensed agent, you may want to consider filing a complaint against her if she is no longer communicating with you.
