I'm 54, unemployed and still healthy. My cobra medical insurance will end in a few months. If I couldn't get another medical insurance after cobra and if I would get a big bill from a hospital, I'm wondering if any then unpaid medical bills will tap into my 401K or IRA retirement accounts. Or I'm wondering how secured that my 401K/IRA would really be for my future retirement. Thank you very much.
Your 401k is and will be exempt from collection activity. The IRA's may be exempt depending on your circumstances.
