I was in a auto accident. I have been in theropy and been doing everything I need. But my question is if I get a settlement from the accident in my favor will it be taken by the irs? I owe taxes because someone used my name and made over 75 thousand dollars more then I had claimed the year it happened. Now I have gotten a notice from the irs saying I owe over 20k. So will they just take any settlement I get?
Since this question involves a potential federal tax lien that purpotedly arose from a fraudulent use of your tax identification number (social security number) you should consult with a CPA and an attorney who specializes in appealing tax liabilities. You should not ignore the notice and need to get this resolved.
