Car was impounded due to lack of insurance and registration
It's impossible to say in advance *if* they will steal any of your personal belongings. Should they steal them? Of course not. You are entitled to have your personal belongings returned to you and typically impound lots will do so within 48 hours. However, keep in mind that the recent holiday has probably increased their volume of automobiles and it may take a bit longer for them to return the items to you.
You should consider contacting the lot as soon as possible to inquire about your personal belongings and when you can pick them up.
Not normally, but it would be best to get any valuables out of the car to avoid the risk.
To the PROSPECTIVE client, please call with more details, and for an appointment. My PRELIMINARY answer to your question(s) is for general purposes and based upon the information you have conveyed. It is based on such limited information that it is a general answer, and should not be relied upon as a reason for your action or inaction. My response does NOT establish an attorney-client relationship and such may only be established by mutual agreement, and the signing of a written retainer agreement, which will generally require payment for our services, as this is what we do for a living and, just like you, we must get paid for our work.
